Job Summary

Unitech’s Project Estimator is a newly opened position. You will hold an integral position in the company and be responsible for ALL estimation aspects of all projects from pre-construction to construction. Your resourcefulness, intelligence, confidence, and dedication will help ensure our construction projects are delivered in accordance with our client’s goals and priorities. You will be committed to building mutually respectful relationships based on trust through clarity and integrity of our systems, procedures and project reporting.

We are looking for someone who has at least 5 years prior experience in a similar construction position. The Project Estimator must align our core values and provide outstanding technical support to all staff. This role will be reporting to the Director of Construction as well as, collaboratively working with various project team members including the COO.

Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Complete a Class ‘D’ (Indicative) Estimate during the Pre-Design phase of our projects
  2. Complete a Class ‘C’ Estimate during the Schematic Design phase of our projects
  3. Complete a Class ‘B’ (Substantive) Estimate during the Design Development phase of our projects
  4. Update the Class ‘B’ (Substantive) Estimate during the Construction Document phase of our projects
  5. Complete a Class ‘A’ (Pre-Tender) Estimate on completion of Construction Document phase
  6. Work hand in hand with the Project Manager to communicate the estimate results with the project team including a detailed comparison between all types of estimates’ basis, both scope, complexity, schedule, and escalation risk
  7. Provide answers to any questions related to estimates, risk identification, management, and mitigation
  8. Support the Project Managers during the tendering process in all cost related factors including bid price review, time, and material rates etc.
  9. Support the Project Managers during Pre-Construction by assisting with cost analysis of items defined in the Risk Register on their projects when requested
  10. Support the Project Managers during Construction by assisting with reviewing trade Contemplated Change Notice Pricing for fairness when requested
  11. Support the Project Managers during Construction by assisting with review of Trade Progress Draws when requested

Key Qualifications

  1. Five years of demonstrable experience in a similar position in the construction industry.
  2. Exemplary communication skills (verbal & written) with strong analytic, and mathematic skills.
  3. Ability to work efficiently with a service-oriented attitude, courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
  4. Committed to maintaining mutually respectful relationships.
  5. Ability to effectively manage time, responsibilities, and priorities.
  6. Proficient with computers and multi-line telephone systems.
  7. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and skills in keyboarding.
  8. Post-secondary education in Quantity Surveying or similar background is an asset.
  9. Experience working on a construction site is an asset
  10. Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and working with BIM Models is an asset
